Thirty one year-old convicted robber, Daryl Keener, just got sentenced to 1,256 years imprisonment by District Judge David S Prince for a series of eight bank robberies.  Keener had earlier been released from prison after serving time for another bank robbery in 2003. As a consequence of this and the fact that he was convicted of multiple robberies his latest sentence was somewhat adjusted using Colorado’s ‘habitual offender sentence enhancer’, which can result in the quadrupling of the sentence.  Add to this that Colorado’s sentencing law applies this ‘sentence enhancer’ to each individual person robbed in each bank and the robbers end up winning the equivalent of the sentence lottery.

But he’ll be okay.  With time off for good behaviour he’ll be coming up for parole before he hits his 450th birthday!
