I’ve just come across this article by BBC correspondent Sean Coughlan about a recent comparison study of university campus crime rates.

The report was written by Bernard Kingston for The Complete University Guide using data from www.police.uk for the period June 2011 to May 2012. It correlates crime and population of council wards falling within a three mile radius of the main university campus.  The report records figures for burglary, robbery and various forms of violent crime, which have been normalised for the population density in each ward.

Visit this link at The Complete University Guide for the comparison tables and a few tips.

Whilst the information is useful I would be surprised if it will make any difference to university applications.  Students’ risks of experiencing crime are about 2 ½ times higher than the national average and much of the reason for this boils down to inexperience and opportunity.  Take a look at the Students section on this website to find out more.  Crime prevention advice for students can also be found in these additional sections of this website: Accommodation   Practising ‘Safe Steps’ Bicycles  Mobile Phones
