A new page called No Cold Calling Zones and Doorstep Selling has been added to this website today to extend the advice already given in Bogus Callers (Distraction burglary).
Down my way recently there seems to have been a great deal more door knockings from people who want to tarmac my drive or make repairs to my perfectly good roof. Having researched the subject quite thoroughly I realised that my initial advice was missing some important detail concerning your consumer protection rights. I also came across a few ‘No Cold Calling Zones’ operating in various parts of the country, which seem to have been successful in reducing the number of unexpected and unwanted calls at the door and protecting some of our more vulnerable neighbours against the rogue traders.
As this website is not intending to be a ‘consumer rights’ resource I have provided links to other organisations to help you further.
On my own local authority’s website (London Borough of Hillingdon) I also found a link to download and print a very useful ‘No Uninvited Callers’ sign for your doors. The sign has been produced by MoneySavingExpert.com in association with the Trading Standards Institute. Here’s the link
If you have any comments you would like to make about this new advice page or would like me to add some further detail please don’t hesitate to contact me using the ‘Feedback on this page’ button in the left hand column.
