As a result of the UK’s Door and Hardware Federation’s publication of a new Technical Specification for ‘security’ letter boxes (TS009:2012) the Letter plates (letter boxes) and mail delivery section on this website has been updated.
The Crime Prevention Website’s general position on the use of letter plates in doors is not to have them in new and replacement doors, but instead opt for a lockable letter box fixed securely to the wall next to the door. Letter plates provide several opportunities to thieves and the sooner this nation moves away from them the better. Of course, we do understand that this changeover will not suit everyone, but the publication of this new technical specification and the availability of the first Grade 2 secure letter box by DAD Ltd now makes it easier to switch should the householder wish to do so.
