Crimestoppers and the UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and Cypriot authorities have compiled a list of nine most wanted criminals suspected of offences including fraud, rape and drug dealing who are thought to be hiding in Cyprus.

One of the men is Martin Evans, 50, from Swansea, who is wanted for drug dealing, theft and fraudulent trading.  He’s currently wanted for stealing thousands of pounds of investments made to a company he ran called Ostrich Centre Limited in 1995. He fled to Cyprus after being released from prison on licence in 2011.

Some of these suspects will be living in Turkish controlled Northern Cyprus, with whom we don’t have an extradition arrangement (Remember Nasil Nadir?), but some are tempted to cross the border in Nicosia to visit the Greek side of the city with its recognisable ‘western’ retail stores. And when they’re on the EU side of the border they can be arrested and returned the UK.

And guess where I am at the moment?

Staying with my friends in Northern Cyprus, so I’d better keep ‘em peeled!
