The first newsletter from the DHF’s Powered Gate Group has been published. Those of you who use automatic gates to access your parking garage, your place of work or perhaps your driveway may not be aware of the careful thought and detailed design work that goes into creating a powered gate that does the job, and does it safely. So I was very pleased to have received this new group’s newsletter today, which gives you a good idea of the important work they do. While I’m awaiting the link to subscribe to it directly I’ve republished the full contents below.
Gate Safety is getting a higher profile throughout the UK … thanks to the initiatives of the Powered Gate Group, part of the Door and Hardware Federation.
With a membership of 35, the group is now in the process of compiling a comprehensive training course for The Gate Safety Diploma that would cover everybody from architect, installer and manufacturer. Meetings by the Technical Committee are shaping the diploma training which will be a key part in taking safety another step forward. This is the second major initiative by the Powered Gate Group that was formed in April of 2011 after industry leading companies decided that there was a need for an independent organisation which could take gate safety forward. The group’s first success came with the endorsement by the Health and Safety Executive of the Gate Safety Guide. Chairman of the Powered Gate Group is Andy Holz. He said: ‘We continue to attract members and make headway in setting the foundations for improved gate safety. We are committed to raising standards and the training, once in place, will be mandatory for all PGG members.’
Since its release earlier this year there have been over 3,500 downloads of the Gate Safety Guide from the DHF website. This unprecedented demand has come from both within and outside the industry. ‘The safety message is getting out there and that has led to more and more wanting to get advice,’ said vice chairman of the PGG, Jeremy Procter.
The Powered Gate Group (PGG) has developed its own website as part of the DHF main site. Giving essential updates and information about the PGG and its membership, the website also gives online access to those who are members of the PGG.
Companies interested in joining can attend one meeting of the group without commitment. To book a place tel: 01827 52337. The next meeting is on Wednesday, 12th December.
