It was good to come across these two police initiatives promoting crime prevention at Christmas to vulnerable groups.
For the young......
PC Suzie Jackson of Leicestershire Police presents some sensible crime prevention tips to students at Loughborough University who are going back home for Christmas and leaving their halls of residence or rented accommodation empty during the period. For the not so young.......
Thames Valley neighbourhood policing teams are working with partner agencies to look after vulnerable elderly residents this Christmas.
In partnership with Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s Community Wardens and Adult Services, and the charity Age UK, neighbourhood policing teams in Maidenhead will be identifying where elderly residents live in Maidenhead (in the town as well as surrounding rural areas) and visit those residents to offer advice on accessing support services, and crime prevention advice to safeguard them, and their homes, from crime.
Inspector John McKee, from Maidenhead neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are fortunate that crimes against elderly people are rare in the Thames Valley. However, Christmas and the New Year period can be a lonely time for the elderly and we just want to get out there and look after them with relevant crime prevention and other advice”.
PCSO Michelle Turner, who has been visiting elderly residents said: “I’ve really enjoyed meeting so many lovely people and helping them with crime prevention advice”.
Andy Aldridge, senior community warden for the Royal Borough, said: “Community wardens regularly work with our colleagues in Thames Valley Police to reassure and protect our vulnerable residents throughout the year and we are pleased to help with this latest initiative.”
