Three burglaries took place in Barrow and Ulverston in South Cumbria in the space of just 24 hours mainly because the doors to the residential properties were left insecure.

Whilst it would be nice to live in a land where you can leave all your doors and windows open when you go out and not get burgled we don’t live there and frankly never have.

Local police are pleading with Cumbrian residents to ensure they leave their homes secure and are inviting them to seek crime prevention advice.

It’s well known that poor security at home can increase your chances of burglary by more than six times the average and that if you later want to claim on your insurance you may not be able to because you were in breach of your insurer’s conditions.

Cumbrian residents are in the top five of counties to complete this website’s free, on-line Home Security Survey.  After completion you’re sent a detailed crime risk assessment report and score with clickable references to other parts of the website for more detailed advice.

You might want to give it a go – you know it makes sense!
