POLICE in Londonderry, working in partnership with the Policing and Community Safety Partnership and the CESAR marking scheme will be holding a ‘CESAR it’ day for farmers on Saturday 23rd February 2013 at Craig’s Farm, 15 Carnmoney Road, Eglinton.
CESAR, standing for Construction Equipment Security and Registration scheme, is an effective security marking system for farm vehicles such as tractors, quad bikes and plant. It uses micro transponders secreted on the machinery that can be scanned and read should the property be stolen and subsequently recovered. CESAR registered property is marked as such to provide a visual deterrent to a would-be thief. The system has been approved by the Construction Equipment Association and the Police Service for Northern Ireland and carries the support of the Home Office.
According to on-line Farming Life ‘the first 20 farmers who register for the CESAR IT day can have the benefit of a CESAR kit fitted to one of their tractors at a discounted price of £80 (plus VAT) and £75 (plus VAT) for quads. This is a huge reduction on the standard ex-VAT prices of £150 and £140 respectively. Once the first 20 have been allocated, the price will increase to £110 (plus VAT) and £105 (plus VAT). All farmers are advised to book early to avail themselves of the discounted prices.’
This measure is just one event of an ongoing initiative by the police service to help farmers in Northern Ireland reduce farm theft.
