From time to time I use this blog to remind readers about the importance of property marking, tagging and tracking.  Just recently, for example, I posted up three stories about this very subject:

So why do I continue to cheerfully repeat the message like the proverbial parrot?

Reasons to be cheerful

  • Identifiable property is less likely to be stolen
  • Identifiable property is more likely to be recovered
  • Identifiable property is more likely to be reunited with its owner
  • Identifiable property reduces the chance of theft and burglary
  • Identifiable property increases the risks to the thief of arrest
  • Identifiable property makes it more difficult for the thief to sell it on
  • Identifiable property increases the risks to the receivers and fences
  • Identifiable property enables police to link a criminal to the crime scene
  • Identifiable property provides valuable evidence for a prosecution
  • Identifiable property increases the probability of conviction

I think I’ve made the point, albeit one that has a tendency to become a little tedious if you’re the one giving it!

It is then, with not a little excitement, that I was relieved, reinvigorated and delighted to have received a telephone call from Mr Alan MacFadyen of It’s Mine Technology (IMT), a new company that supplies the very latest in chip technology and other smart property protection products.

IMT’s RFID microchips measure just 8mm x 1.4mm and comply with ISO 11784/5.  They’ve also been tested by the International Committee for Animal Recording, the body responsible for compliance with the standards to ensure that the number on them is unique and unalterable. They can be used to tag countless numbers of objects, such as handbags, musical instruments, bicycles and even scaffolding poles.  They come complete with an applicator and tamper resistant stickers.  Once you’ve chipped the item of property you'll need to register the unique number on the police promoted National Mobile Property Register (NMPR) by creating a free account at www.immobilise.com. And you can find further information about ‘chipping’ on IMT’s site here.

To read more about IMT’s microchips and other clever products visit the Products section on their website, but while you’re there I would encourage you also to click on the ‘Science’ link at the bottom of their pages.  It’s not often that a company like this provides the visitor with the science to explain the importance of asset marking; and this is something I found both interesting and refreshing.  For those of you who run Neighbourhood Watches might I suggest referencing some of this science in your next newsletter?

So, if you want reasons to be cheerful during this dreadful weather– make your property identifiable

You know it makes sense!

It’s Mine Technology: http://www.itsminetechnology.com/index.php and the Crime Prevention Website have a reciprocal link between sites.
