About a week ago West Mercia Police warned motorists driving through the county of Shropshire to be very wary about people on the roadside trying to flag them down for assistance.  It seems that some of the drivers who did stop were conned into buying cheap rings and necklaces, believing they were real gold.  The fraudsters claimed the cash was for fuel or some other emergency.

Since this report on their website there’s been another more recent story and it turns out that this little scam has been going on for weeks!

Now, nobody deserves to become a victim of crime, but come on!  Do you honestly think that if you part company with £50+ on the roadside for a gold ring it’s going to be gold?  I can hear the victim now...”But he was such a nice man, his wife and two children were in the car and his English was ever so good.  I felt so sorry for him”

Not everybody in trouble on the roadside is going to con you, but some will.  If you really want to help a stranded motorist remember where they were and call the police on your mobile when it is safe and legal to do so.

You know it makes sense!

Remember..........

Modern  All that glitters is not gold!

Chaucer  ‘Hyt is not al golde that glareth’

Shakespeare ‘All that glisters is not gold’

 J. R. R. Tolkien ‘All that is gold does not glitter’
