The UCL Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science has recently published a very useful guide to problem solving for Neighbourhood Policing.

Although the guide has been written for Neighbourhood Police Teams, the techniques have been so clearly described in the booklet that they can be used by any group of people looking to solve a problem in their neighbourhood.

Obviously, many of the solutions to problems in your neighbourhood will necessarily involve working with others, such as your neighbourhood policing team or local authority, but it’s good to have access to a simple guide like this so you can understand problem solving and see how you and your neighbours fit into the process.

This is a valuable tool and takes just 20 minutes to read
