Crime prevention news is a little hard to find today, so I thought you might like to see this little gem...
Police in Bangalore, in the Indian State of Karnataka, are using life-size, cardboard cut-out cops to prevent motorists from committing traffic offences.
This is not new of course and you can go back to the 1980s when they were first used in Britain; not just to trick motorists, but to play a role in preventing all sorts of crime. There have also been cardboard cut-outs of uniformed store detectives to prevent shoplifting and even cardboard police traffic cars plonked on top of motorway bridges to deter speeding.
The police in Bangalore reckon the measure is working and there are, of course, extra benefits. They work for no money, don’t get bored and they don’t have to take breaks. Not everyone in the city thinks they are such a good idea though and cutting remarks have been numerous, such as “these cardboard cops just stand around all day long doing nothing, much like the real ones.”.....Ouch!!!
