As my regular visitors will know, I’ve been running a campaign on safes over the past few weeks supported by this Prize Draw to win a £500 voucher to be spent on safe products with our friends at TotalSafes.co.uk (Terms and Conditions apply)
The response has been very good indeed. We’ve had lots of new Facebook likes, re-tweets, Newsletter subscribers and completed Home Security Surveys, which all helps to spread the message of crime prevention and the presence of this website.
It’s been interesting to see that details of the draw have been posted onto two specialist competition websites, which means that a lot of people, who would not ordinarily have found this site have done so and may have used the opportunity to have a good ‘ole rummage around to see what other advice we have to offer.
We hope so, because behind the Prize Draw safe campaign is a serious message about protecting your most valuable possessions and documents and the little sentimental things you hold dear, just in case you become the victim of a burglary.
Since the peak of '93, when the British Crime Survey (Now Crime Survey for England and Wales) recorded 1.77 million burglaries in England and Wales giving the chances of being burgled at 1 household in every 17, the rate of burglary has steadily declined to around 700k a year, which is 1 household in every 50. This means that the ‘average household’ will only experience around 1 burglary in an entire lifetime. This seems like good news, but in fact the risk of burglary is far from evenly spread (see Burglary risk) and there are some households that will experience burglary far more often. Even if the current average rate of burglary is 1 in 50 households per year it only takes one burglary for you to lose the things that mean a lot to you. You can replace the flat screen TV and the laptop and the credit cards, but you can’t replace your mum’s engagement ring or your Grandfather’s medals and that’s where a safe comes in.
So, whilst it’s great that lots of people have entered our prize draw, we’ve run it for a serious reason.
If you’ve already entered, good luck! If you haven’t, have a go!
