It’s a real pleasure to announce our link up with Hide Tower and Vauxhall Bridge Road Neighbourhood Watch Schemes. Both these Watches share the same informative website, the Vincent Square NHW Schemes London SW1 and both were created to deal with real crime problems and anti-social behaviour (ASB).
Neighbourhood Watch Hide Tower (NWHT)
Begun by just one person back in April 2009 the Watch incorporates 517 households in Chapter Street, Esterbrooke Street, Hide Place, Regency Street, Vincent Street, one Youth Club and one Drop-In Centre and continues to expand.
NWHT has helped to resolve issues such as drug trafficking, drug use, intruders, noise and rubbish issues, rough sleeping, tagging and graffiti and are vigilant about sustaining and maintaining a safe, secure and vibrant community in their neighbourhood.
Vauxhall Bridge Road Neighbourhood Watch (VBRNW)
Residents of Vauxhall Bridge Road estate were driven to set up their Watch in March 2011 due to personal incidents and reported incidents from their neighbours on the estate relating to an ongoing and worsening problem of anti-social behaviour, caused primarily by the lack of security on the estate.
VBRNW has worked closely with Peabody to improve lighting in the communal area of their flats and also to repair and maintain their security gates and are now working to introduce CCTV around the estate and to improve the door entry systems to the blocks of flats.
To achieve their objectives to reduce crime and ASB both Watches work closely with the Vincent Square and St James South Safer Neighbourhoods Police team, their local Ward Councillors, Westminster City Council, the Westminster Wardens and other Neighbourhood Watches.
Both these Watches are excellent examples of how just a few people, working with their communities through Neighbourhood Watch, can help the police and council fight crime and can improve their built environment to remove the opportunity for crime and ASB to take place. Through our website link up we hope to be able to help in some small way and we wish them both every success in the future.
