This website almost exclusively concerns itself with the prevention of crime because in spite of headline grabbing successes about the prosecution and conviction of villains, for which we are all very grateful, in the final analysis and for the sake of stating the ‘bleedin obvious’ most of us would rather not be the victim of a crime in the first place. However, when all our preparations have failed and the criminal strikes it is comforting to know that we can rely on our police force to do their best to catch those responsible. And that’s why I thought I’d run this story from Shropshire Police concerning the recognition of a team of their officers who were recently commended for their part in identifying offenders for a series of burglaries and bringing them to justice.
This is their press release:
During spring 2012 there was an increase in the number of burglaries in Shropshire and Telford, and in the neighbouring counties of Cheshire and Staffordshire.
DI Peter Brophy led a proactive investigation, Operation Naris, and with a team which included DS Andrew Chatting, DC David Bettison and DC Della Grice gathered an accurate evidential and intelligence picture of the suspects.
In May 2012 intelligence was received that the group was planning to commit a burglary at a high value residential property in Staffordshire.
Staffordshire Police was alerted and officers attended the target premises, and found a car with the suspects nearby.
After a police pursuit all three were arrested and subsequently charged with conspiring to commit 30 burglaries across several counties and force areas.
In January this year the trio received prison sentences of five years, three and a half years and two and a half years.
The officers are commended for their high levels of personal commitment, professionalism and their clear achievement in protecting the public and prosecuting offenders.
They will receive their awards at a ceremony at Shire Hall, Shrewsbury tomorrow Tuesday, July 30 along with colleagues from Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Church Stretton. Press releases for these have already been issued.

An excellent result, I’m sure you will agree. And while these criminals languish in prison at least these individuals won’t be breaking into peoples’ homes.
