A Partner of this website, Gary Cordner, Ph.D. Professor of Criminal Justice at Kutztown University Berks County Pennsylvania, runs a blog for his students called ‘Modern Policing’, which regularly carries some excellent articles.

His latest post concerns predictive policing.....

One way to prevent crime is to predict where crime is likely to take place and when.  This is known as ‘predictive policing’ and is being used by police services here in the UK.  In its simplest guise the idea is to place police patrols in the locations where crime can be expected in the hope of preventing the predicted crime from taking place.  Professor Cordner has just sent me this link to a Southern California Public Radio broadcast, which looks at how the Los Angeles Police Department are using the model.  It’s only about 5 minutes long, but for those who don’t know much about the subject it’s well worth a listen.
