Those of you who visit this website regularly may have spied a couple of additions to the site recently.
If you cast your eye to the top banner you’ll see an orange bubble with the word ‘new’ below the word ‘directory’. If you click on that you’ll be taken to a new section on the website called the Security Products and Services Directory.
The opening page displays a grid of product and service categories and a few of these will show a number, which means there are companies listed within. It’s a bit like an advent calendar!
When you click on a category with a number showing you will presented with a list of companies in that category and a map showing where they are located. Clicking on a company name will take you to their own page on the website where you can read all about them and their product or service. You’ll also be able to contact them via a messaging form, which cuts out the spam.
Obviously we have only just started this stage of our website development and so there aren’t many companies in it at the moment, but do please check in periodically to see who’s just joined us.
To support the companies who have kindly agreed to advertise with us Ben has added some programming which randomly displays Directory members in a new panel located in the left-hand column of each page on the website – between the page indexing and the ‘Latest news’ panels. The programming will ensure that the companies that appear in this new panel will be relevant to the page you are reading, although this won’t be apparent until we’ve got lots of companies in the Directory.
I am particularly keen to attract companies and people who offer products and or services that meet the security standards I recommend on this website and so before we take on a new advertiser they first have to fill out a registration form so that I can check them out – so to speak.
Apart from the initial enquiry and my checking, everything connected with advertising on this site is what you could term ‘self-service’. This means that advertisers upload their own details, logos and banners themselves. It’s all clever stuff really and is all down to Ben – that’s my boy!
The income we generate from advertising is going to enable us to make further planned improvements to this website and have it designed to look prettier! But importantly we’ll be able to put you in touch with suppliers of products and services that’ll meet your needs. Needless to say these are exciting times for us!
