Thousands of tins of baked beans have been stolen from a lorry parked in a Worcestershire lay-by as the driver slept in his cab.
A total of 6,400 tins of Heinz baked beans with sausages were removed after thieves cut a large hole in the curtain-sided articulated lorry parked in a rural lay-by on the A441 at Cookhill, near Redditch.
The lay-by is situated about half a mile from the M42 and the theft happened between 8.45pm Monday and 5.30am yesterday.
The driver was asleep in the cab of his white Scania lorry which had the name “LKW Walter” on the side of the blue and yellow trailer.
Police are appealing for information, especially about anyone trying to sell large quantities of Heinz baked beans in suspicious circumstances.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said an entire pallet and part of a second pallet were stolen from the lorry. The product code is 71517000 with an expiry date of 31 March 2015.
Information should be forwarded by calling police on 101 or alternatively, the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 for which a reward may be paid.
TCPW Comment I have no doubt that the police are also looking for a gang of thieves suffering from a bad bought of flatulence. So shouldn’t be difficult to find since they’ve only got to follow their noses!
