Thames Valley Police continues the 100 days of action to tackle rural crime. The Cherwell & West Oxon local policing area is due to carry out seven days of intensive operational and crime prevention activity to tackle rural crime from Monday (9/12) to Sunday (15/12).

The aim of the 100 days of action is to:

  • Prevent rural crime offences through high visibility policing
  • Respond to rural crimes, identify and secure suspects and bring offenders to justice
  • Target known offenders and crime groups
  • Improve confidence in the police amongst the rural community

On Monday (9/12)

  • 10am until 2pm officers will be holding a crime reduction and prevention event at Pains Hill Farm Golf Club in Horton Cum Studley.
  • 10am-12pm Officers and the Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator will be hosting a Neighbourhood Watch event at Upper Heyford Community shop.

On Tuesday (10/12)

  • 10am until 2pm officers will be hosting an event at North Brook Farm Business Centre.
  • 10am until 3pm officers will be hosting an event at Pets At Home in Banbury.

On Wednesday (11/12)

  • 10am until 2pm officers will be hosting an event at Yarnton Nurseries.
  • 10am until 3pm officers will be hosting an event at Country Wide Suppliers, Chipping Norton.

On Thursday (12/11)

  • 10am until 3pm officers will be hosting an event at PA Turney, Bicester.

At these crime prevention and reduction events officers will be offering members of the public advice and literature on how to protect their homes and deter opportunist thieves during the winter period.

There will also be opportunities to express interest in signing up to Neighbourhood Watch and signing up to Thames Valley Alert.

On Saturday (14/12)

  • 10am to 2pm officer are working in partnership with Datatag to host a Tack marking and Equine event at Countrywide Suppliers, Chipping Norton.

On Sunday (15/12)

  • 10am to 2pm officers will be hosting another Tack marking and Equine event in Merrick Hill Stud, Goddington.

The Tack marking service at these events will be free of charge to members of the public. Datatag will be offering specialist advice on what to look out for on tampered with or stolen agricultural machinery.

Acting Sergeant Richard Miller, said “In addition to normal policing activity we will be devoting extra resources to tackling rural crime and holding a series of crime prevention events during the week.

“During this week there will be a particular focus on farm security, crime prevention advice in relation to burglary dwellings, non-dwellings, heating oil and metal thefts, and protecting and marking agricultural machinery. The neighbourhood officers will be patrolling the local area and carrying out door knocks throughout the week. Please feel free to approach your local neighbourhood team with any concerns or questions you may have.

“I would like to encourage residents to attend these events, to find out more about how you can improve your home security and take advantage of the free security marking services.

“These events are also a great opportunity for residents from the local area to meet their neighbourhood officers and discuss any matters of concern.”

Thames Valley Police continue to offer residents within the Force area discounts on CESAR security marking kits for agricultural machinery.

The standard price for the CESAR kit is £149 plus VAT. The Thames Valley Police discount allows residents to have the kit installed for £88 plus VAT
