I have just replied to the third email in as many weeks concerning the lazy delivery of letters and leaflets through people’s letterplates (in the door) and letterboxes.

The problem is two-fold:  First of all stuff sticking out of a letterplate may give an indication to a burglar that nobody’s at home and, secondly, a gap in what would otherwise be a sealed letterplate in the door lets the cold in, which isn’t such a nice thing to do to people this time of year.

So, if you’re reading this and are a) delivering leaflets, b) delivering newspapers, c) delivering Christmas cards to the neighbours, please push the items all the way through so they drop onto the floor or into the letter basket on the back of the door.  Likewise, if delivering into a letterbox on the house wall or perhaps by the gate please do the same and makes sure the delivered items are not visible to the street.

If you’re one of our Police or Neighbourhood Watch followers a re-tweet of this message would be greatly appreciated.

You know it makes sense! – Thank you very much J

P.S.  If you have a dog that jumps up to the letter plate when things are put through then frankly you’ve only got yourself to blame if things don’t get pushed through entirely.

Letterplates in doors are a security problem anyway and if it is practical to do so you should think about blocking the letterplate and using a letterbox on the wall instead.  For more information about the problems and what you can do please follow this link:
