Many thousands of boys and girls and grown-ups will have become the owners of new bikes during Christmas and if you’re one of those lucky people and the thing’s not been marked and registered now’s the time to get the job done.
Quite a few Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams around the country will be organising free or good value marking sessions over the next few weeks, so keep your ears and eyes open for a marking session near you; like the one being held at Worcester Park Police Office (Surrey) in Central Road from 11:00 to 15:00 on Saturday 11 January.
New bikes are very attractive to thieves and so some will inevitably get stolen over the next few weeks. Fortunately the police recover huge numbers of them during the course of their enquiries but if they’re not marked and registered you probably won’t get them back. Instead they will be auctioned off with the money going to local charities.
So, visit the bike security pages on this website, follow the advice and hold onto those shiny new wheels.
