One of the objectives of The Crime Prevention Website is to Provide free, independent, clear and accurate crime prevention advice to all members of our society and what better way of achieving this than to reciprocally link with Neighbourhood Watch (NW) and Community websites.

NW in particular is a partnership where people come together to make their communities safer. And in the UK they do this in a passive, but practical way.

I was involved in the setting up of several NW schemes when I was a Home Beat policeman in Acton way back in the mid 1980s and the Watch’s objectives then are much the same as today.

NW members were encouraged to:

  • Promote to others and take sensible precautions themselves to protect their persons, their property and their homes from crime
  • Report suspicious behaviour and incidents to the police
  • Foster a community spirit
  • Look out for their neighbours
  • Pass on messages and warnings from the police

And notice that none of this involves patrolling the streets, because that’s what the police do, although when walking along the streets, perhaps taking the dog for a walk, members are encouraged to notice what’s going on and to report any suspicions to the police without putting themselves in harm’s way.

And you’d think that these objectives would be easy things to do, and they are, so long as you have some guidance to hand.  And that’s why it’s important to have a close working relationship with the local Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

So how can the Crime Prevention Website help?

Well, we’re certainly not here to replace the police!  But what we can do is to provide access to an enormous amount of advice to help Watch members protect their homes their property and themselves.  We also put out news stories about current crime trends and of course we provide the only on-line Home Security Survey application, which is completely free and very comprehensive.

Obviously I have a particular interest in linking up with NW websites, because this is one sure way I can meet my own objective, but unfortunately it seems there is no real handle on the number of NW websites that actually exist – in an active sense that is (I often come across sites that haven’t been updated for several years!).

Below you’ll find the 47 NW and Community websites I currently link with; all of them active, some hugely so, and if yours is not on the list or should be and I don’t know about you or you're thinking it would be a good idea to be on it now’s a good time to get in touch with me using Contact. It's all free!

And it’s easy to link to us, just click on ‘link to us’ to see how

By making the link, we can help each other achieve our objectives, so I do hope you get in touch.

And if you have a moment do please visit some of the sites below
