I managed to read the executive summary of this report and as I have a section on the site dedicated to answering the door to callers (although this is aimed at the bogus caller) I thought this would be a useful extension to the words of advice. The report, written by GHK Consulting Limited, concludes that there has been an overall improvement in levels of consumer satisfaction with legitimate doorstep sellers, but recognises that ‘there is scope for improvement in relation to several elements of doorstep selling, in particular around the use of pressure sales techniques and the lack of shopping around by consumers’.
Whether anything further will come from this in relation to ‘pressure sales’ I don’t know, but if any of you get the guy trying to sell you an alarm system whilst scaring you witless with ‘crime scene’ photos do please let the Office of Fair Trading know or drop a line to me and I'll inform them.
Worth a quick read at this link
