Ben and his fiancée were at KOKO (Formerly Camden Palace) in Camden yesterday to see Ed Sheeran. While they were waiting for him to come on these words were projected onto the stage screen, which Ben sent me......
We care about your phone. Please look after it tonight.
Phone theft is at an unprecedented level in London, especially within Licensed Premises. Please secure your property, be alert and don’t let a thief spoil your evening.
Plain clothed and uniform security personnel are operating within these premises. If you see anything suspicious, please alert a manager or a member of the security team.
Thank you
That’s a responsible attitude by venue management and highlights an ongoing problem with mobile phone theft not just in London, but in many of our large cities.
At £400 a pop (or thereabouts) smartphones have become a lucrative business for the snatch thief and pick-pocket and some concert venues are favoured places simply because of opportunity, especially amongst the standing crowd. Everyone’s looking towards the stage, it’s often quite dark, it’s noisy, people are having a great time (and may have had one or two drinks), the phones are out on display taking pictures and texting and inevitably our guard is sometimes down!
Just get into the habit of keeping the phone in a front pocket. Keep bags fastened or zipped and never leave one sitting on top of a handbag.
With just a little thought you can enjoy the concert and bring home the pics!
