Two metal gates, which are of historical importance to a Chesterfield business, have been stolen.

The gates were taken sometime between Friday, May 23 and Tuesday, May 27 from Robinsons PLC’s Field House, Canon Mill building, on Wheatbridge Road.

They were presented to company in 1939 to mark their centenary and are approximately 7ft tall by 3ft wide.

Anyone with information should contact Derbyshire police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

TCPW Comment:  Although metal theft has reduced somewhat since the introduction of the new Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 this incident shows us that attacks on heritage buildings and structures continues to take place.  Let’s hope that the gates haven’t already been chopped up and delivered to a dealer for processing.  Gates like these will cost a small fortune to replace and measures will have to be put in place to prevent a repeat attack.
