As my regular visitors will know quite well, I bang on about my Home Security Survey at least once a week; sometimes twice.  The reason is quite straightforward.  Before you know what it is that you need to do to improve your security arrangements you need to discover where your risks lie and the survey has been designed to do just that.

Although the survey is anonymous I do collect the data and use it to inform my Newsletter (coming out soon by the way) and advice pages and one thing this data has revealed for the first time is our habit of overestimating our home security – many of us think our homes are more secure than they really are.

This factor has come to light because I ask respondents two direct questions about their security estimations

Those that claim their home security is either ‘extremely’ or ‘very secure’ drops by 33% once they’ve completed the survey and those that believe their homes are ‘not very secure’ increases by 58%

This is why you should be taking the survey and encouraging others to do so.

I’m trying to get the number of completed survey up to 5,000 so that I can drill down into the data and reveal more interesting facts, but I need bigger numbers so that the results are statistically significant.

It’s a good time of year to do some work on your home, so please take 15 minutes or so out to do the survey and share this request with your friends, family and neighbours, because your home may not be as secure as you think it is!
