The Borough of Bexley is located in the far east of Greater London, just beyond Greenwich and south of the Thames. It’s one of the safest London Boroughs and probably one of the reasons for this is the fact that it has a very active neighbourhood watch organisation. There are over 400 watches across Bexley, each one having a coordinator and deputy. These volunteers have on-hand support from the Bexley Borough Neighbourhood Watch Association (BBNWA), which also acts as a link with the police and other agencies.
It’s great to see that BBNWA operates a ‘nominated neighbour’ scheme to help protect friends, relatives and neighbours from bogus callers and rogue traders. You can volunteer to help with this very worthwhile initiative via their website.
Although crime figures continue to fall, the overall volume of crime is still far too high for us to rest on our laurels. I firmly believe that the neighbourhood watch movement is a vital part of this country’s crime fighting strategy because it’s the single most organised way that the public can voluntarily work with their local police to protect themselves and their neighbours from crime.
BBNWA is clearly a well-organised group of volunteers (just see some of their Newsletters to see how active they are!) and we’re delighted that we now have an ongoing association with them. Please pay their website a visit.
