Cumbria Police are inviting people in Workington to get their bike marked and registered, to help protect against theft.
The event will take place on Saturday 9th August 2014 between 1pm and 4pm at the old JJB Store in Workington Town Centre.
PCSO Christopher Casson said: “We’re asking people to come along and protect their bike. Anyone with a bike, even if you are just visiting the area, should come along and get it marked. We will be on hand to explain the process and provide advice on how to mark and register your bike.
“Bikes can be worth a lot of money these days, and bike marking makes it easier for any stolen bikes to be returned to their rightful owner.”
TCPW Comment: It is, frankly, essential that you mark and register your bike, as otherwise there is little chance of getting it back if recovered by the police. Of course, bike marking is just one element of bike security and obviously you should be doing everything you can to prevent it being stolen in the first place.
There’s a lot of information about bike security on this website, which includes a quick risk assessment table to complete to work out your individual risks.
