The Commons Home Affairs Committee has published  their ‘Private Investigators’ report today where they recommend that all private investigators in England and Wales should be licensed or at least registered.  MPs have learned that 2,032 private investigators are registered as data controllers but industry groups claim up to 10,000 people work as investigators.

The Home Office said that the development of a suitably effective regulatory regime would be considered after the outcome of the Leveson Inquiry.
