We are delighted to announce that the British Parking Association have linked up with The Crime Prevention Website to jointly promote their approaches to crime prevention.

The British Parking Association operates ‘The Safer Parking Scheme’, which is an initiative of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) aimed at reducing crime and the fear of crime in parking facilities.

Safer parking status, Park Mark®, is awarded to parking facilities that have met the requirements of a risk assessment conducted by the police. These requirements mean the parking operator has put in place measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, thereby doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime in their parking facility.

Benefits for the customer include: Quality management, appropriate lighting, effective surveillance and a clean environment.

The scheme is managed by the British Parking Association (BPA) on behalf of ACPO’s Secured by Design project. It is supported by the Home Office, the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Having been a Crime Prevention Design Adviser in the police service I am very familiar with the Park Mark® scheme and how it works and of course I’m a keen supporter.  I would urge you to use these security assessed car parks when one is available, so if you’re visiting a new place and are wondering where to park safely you should plan ahead and search www.parkmark.co.uk to find the local Park Mark® accredited car park.

You know it makes sense!
