Down my way – Marked and registered stolen bike gets returned

I was outside the front of my house recently, collecting the mail from my letterbox when a neighbour of mine ran over to me in a most excited state to report that her bike, which had been stolen from outside the baker’s the month before, had been recovered by the police and returned to her.  What’s more, they’d arrested the thief and the guy running the second-hand shop who’d been selling it.

It’s great to be able to report a good news story about a crime down my way and it’s also great to report the fact that marking and registering your bike is a worthwhile thing to do, even though in this instance it didn’t prevent the bike from being stolen in the first place, mind you she hadn’t locked the bike when she went into the shop!
