A HOST of events will be held in Bromsgrove and Redditch throughout February to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month.

Artrix is playing host to an exhibition called Otherness: Playing with Gender Representation featuring photographs by John Rae.

He said: "This photographic project invites the viewer to compare images of male and female representations of the same person side by side, thereby crystallising the uncertainty and doubt and ultimately exposing the preoccupation with gender classification."

That begins on Wednesday (Febuary 6) and runs until March 3. Those wanting to view it can check it out between 10am and 4pm from Monday to Saturday and on performance evenings.

Then on Thursday (February 7), Bromsgrove will hold its fourth annual, family friendly LGBT event at the Artrix, which is open to everyone.

It features a children’s entertainer and a free buffet from 6pm, followed by the free screening of the Oscar-winning film Beginners at 7.30pm. That is for those 15 and over.

There will also be information displays from various Worcestershire organisations covering a range of LGBT-related health and social issues.

The Mayor of Redditch, Coun Alan Mason, will officially launch LGBT History Month 2013 tonight (Friday) at Redditch Town Hall, Alcester Street.

It will feature the first public viewing of a new, locally-made film designed to help combat hate crime.

It starts at 5.30pm in the council chamber.
