Those of you who know me will be aware that I was a Crime Prevention Design Adviser in the Metropolitan Police and also worked for ACPO’s Secured by Design project. During my time in these positions I met up with lots of like-minded professionals trying and also convincing developers, planners and architects to think about designing out crime opportunity from all types of new building development.
One person I met several times during my travels was Art Hushen, then attached to the Tampa Police Department’s Special Operations Bureau, where he spent several very successful years in a role similar to mine in the Met Police. After Art retired in 2006 he went on to have a successful career as a consultant and trainer, and is still involved with the Florida Design out Crime Association, which is a similar organisation to the UK’s Designing out Crime Association.
It was really great to get back in touch and link up our websites. Here’s to Art and his colleagues for their continued success in designing out crime in Florida – they know it makes sense!
