Here’s a good news story for Monday
Police Community Support Officer Wupundu Simpungwe of Upminster Safer Neighbourhoods Team was running a crime prevention workshop at Upminster Library when staff at Aldi in St Mary’s Lane contacted him via the town’s radio link system. He was told that a man had stolen £930 from the till and had run off.
PCSO Simpungwe cut short his talk and took to the streets in search of the suspect whom he found and detained until assistance arrived and the suspect was formerly arrested by local Police Constables.
PCSO Simpungwe’s actions have been praised by his line manager as has the town’s radio link system which keeps local businesses directly in touch with local police and enables a fast response to calls for assistance.
Local police have suggested that if other shops in the area would like to be part of the town’s radio link they should contact the police at their local base in Corbets Tey Road.
Well done to PCSO Simpungwe, but maybe Aldi needs some crime prevention advice now!
