I just found this appeal on the news pages of Essex Police.

Victim Support in Essex is on the look out for volunteers to support people who have been victims of domestic violence.

Last year the charity managed nearly 5000 cases of domestic abuse in the county and its staff is now looking for volunteers who can help make sure victims have access to help when they need it, even if the crime has not been reported to police.

Anyone interested in the role should be able to demonstrate experience of working with vulnerable people either professionally or in a previous volunteering role and be able to devote four to five hours of their time a week. Transport is an advantage but not essential.

In return, Victim Support will provide volunteers with an accredited training package and reimburse all out of pocket expenses. The next training event is planned for October this year.

To find out more or for an application form, call 01277 357555.

Anyone affected by domestic violence can call Victim Support on 0845 4565 995.

NATIONALLY.....

Having witnessed the help given to victims of crime by the Victim Support organisation on numerous occasions during my police career I have great admiration for the valuable work they do.  They are always looking out for volunteers in every community and region so that they can ensure the very best support for their clients.

They welcome staff and volunteers from every walk of life and from every community. This helps them reach out to people in need, whatever their circumstances. That’s why they have policies in place to make sure they attract the best staff and volunteers from all communities.
