Police in Telford are today appealing for help from the public as they investigate a burglary that occurred in Wellington on Monday.

The incident occurred at a property on Marton Drive on Monday 26 August.

Sometime between 3pm and 4pm it appears that thieves may have entered the property through insecure conservatory doors at the rear and then carried out a thorough search of a number of rooms.

The thieves then stole a significant numbers of items – many of them electrical – before making their escape back out through the conservatory doors.

A police spokesman said:

“Among the items stolen as a result of this burglary were a Toshiba laptop computer, a Dell Netbook computer, a white Apple iPad, a white 8GB Apple iPod, a black Nikon digital camera and a Blackberry mobile phone.

“In addition, several hundred pounds worth of jewellery was also stolen during this burglary.

“Anyone with information about this incident, especially anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Marton Drive area on Monday afternoon, is asked to call police in

Telford on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 392S 260813.

“Alternatively, please remember that information can also be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

TCPW Comment This police report doesn’t tell us whether the conservatory doors were unlocked or just not that well locked, but whatever the case this was a terrible thing for the victim, since I suspect some of the jewellery stolen would have held irreplaceable sentimental value.

Even though we can suggest that this burglary might not have occurred had the conservatory doors been properly secured we all must acknowledge that from time to time we all make mistakes and have at times paid the consequences.  I most certainly did when I left the key in the back door one night!

Here though is a case where the thieves have got to the back of the house before they even found the conservatory doors and so we should all just take a moment to consider how our own properties might be vulnerable to trespass around the back.

There’s tons of advice on this website for you to consider, but if you have access down the side of your home or from a back fence can I suggest you take a look at this section on the website and take it from there.

You know it makes sense!
