You may have seen and heard Attorney General, Dominic Grieve, on our news stations this morning warning of the dangers of putting comments out on Twitter and Facebook that might prejudice court proceedings.  One of the main problems, it seems, is that many of us are not aware that by commenting in the wrong way we could be breaking the law and neither are some of us fully aware of the gravity of the sentences that can be handed down.

To help us avoid making mistakes and winding up in court ourselves the Attorney General’s Office will publish court advisory notes – guidelines - for all to see and refer to.

Yes, some people will carry on saying the wrong or inappropriate things, but with the publication of the ‘rules’ they’ll be hard pressed to claim that they didn’t understand.

Once I’ve found them I’ll update this news item!

In the meantime here’s an interesting piece on the subject from the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20782257
