This short good news story about some residents in Adobe Acres, South Valley, New Mexico shows us how a community working with the local police service can really turn things around.
The Adobe Acres neighbourhood was awash with graffiti and the culprits it seems were the drug users and the other wastrels who used some nearby field to loiter and shoot up. They were also committing other crimes in the area too, including setting cars on fire. The fed-up residents got together with the local police and asked what they could do. They set about cleaning up the area; they painted walls, planted bushes up against the most tagged walls and reported incidents of tagging to the police.
Their neighbourhood has been free of graffiti for several months and those responsible for it and the other crimes have moved on – Result!
