My thanks to Imaan Williams, 1st Watch Coordinator, Neighbourhood Watch Hide Tower Scheme, for passing on this information from the Victoria Business Improvement District.

It seems that there’s been a noticeable and recent increase in people tendering counterfeit bank notes in central London.  In response, the Manager of the Victoria Business Improvement District, Mr Karl Rogers, has distributed 200 ultra-violet key chains lights to businesses in the area to assist their staff identify fakes.

Although these pages have given advice on how to spot counterfeit banknotes before it is timely to once again pass on the warning and suggest that you take a look at the Bank of England PDF guide on how to check a banknote (see link below).

Don’t forget that if someone gives you a banknote that you later realise is counterfeit you will be committing an offence if you hold onto it or try to pass it on to someone else.  If you get one it’s worthless and you should take it to the police station. By handing them in you are actually helping the police and Bank of England track down the fakers.

The lesson for us all here is always to check that the notes you recieve are genuine and a quick read of this interesting guide will help you do just that

You know it makes sense!
