Students in Sunderland are being urged to get their bikes security marked to prevent theft.
PC Graeme Jenkinson, based at the University of Sunderland, is holding a week of free crime prevention events for the city's students, many of whom use bikes to get around campus.
PC Jenkinson will be at the following locations in May offering crime prevention and road safety advice for cyclists:
- Monday, May 12, at Clanny House from 4pm to 6pm
- Tuesday, May 13, at Panns/Scotia from 4pm to 6pm
- Wednesday, May 14, at Prospect Library from 8.30am to 10.30am, and Murray Library from 12.30pm to 2.30pm
- Thursday, May 15, at The Precinct from 4pm to 6pm
- Friday, May 16, at Murray Library from 8.30am to 10.30am and Prospect Library from 12.30pm to 2pm
The events are part of Operation Soundwave, Northumbria Police's campaign cracking down on opportunist thieves and promoting crime prevention advice.
TCPW Comment: I am uncertain as to what PC Jenkinson will be recommending for the ‘marking’ of cycles, but I assume it will be a proprietary marking system aligned to a bike register.
