For those of you who subscribe to our Newsletter you will have read that we’ve recently written to a number of police services around the UK who don’t currently link to this website. We’ve not done this before and there’s quite a lot to write to, so we’re doing them in two batches.  We’ll announce the results of these requests in the next newsletter, so you can see how we got on.

The reasons we’ve done this are quite simple.

  • We’re trying to increase referral traffic to this site, obviously
  • We want to support the police service and help spread the crime prevention message, especially at this time of reduced budgets, which remember were around 20% for some forces
  • We want to further promote our free and anonymous Home Security Survey so that the data we derive from respondents becomes even more useful for all of us and maybe somewhat revealing!

We only posted the first lot of letters on Thursday last and we’ve already had two replies.  One force is thinking about it and the other, Greater Manchester Police, called us on the phone just yesterday to say that they’ll be linking very soon.  Isn’t that great news and a promising start!

Although it’s fantastic news when a new police service links up it is still very important for people wanting crime prevention advice to first seek it from their local police.  This is because the types of crimes and the regularity of their occurrence are geographical in their nature, which means that the common crimes going on in say, Gloucestershire aren’t necessarily the things to watch out for in east London.

So, if you’re seeking information and advice about crime make sure you visit your local police website for help and advice first.  If you want some detail and some extra help then come to The Crime Prevention Website.
