Last night somebody in Worcestershire took the brave decision to carry out our Home Security Survey and became the three thousandth person to do so since we launched the website. No prizes were awarded, but they did get their free security report and risk assessment score. Their score put them in what I describe as the ‘Grey Zone’, a place where all is not lost, but additional security improvements will always be required. I’m sure they’ll be off to their local DIY store this morning!
As I’ve remarked several times on these pages, burglary and thefts from around the home only normally happen when the opportunities are there to be taken advantage of. Remove those opportunities and you’ll make the thief’s job very difficult; so difficult they won’t even bother trying. We know this because the research conducted on the data collected by the ‘Crime in England and Wales’ survey tells us so. If you have less than basic security measures your home is almost 6 times more likely to be selected by the thief.
So, do yourself a favour, take the survey and make those security improvements.
