I’ve just come across this interesting crime prevention strategy on the National Crime Prevention Council’s website (USA).

I won’t regurgitate the whole strategy page, but in essence it focuses on taking at-risk youths off the street, turning them away from a life of crime and giving them positive role models by offering them healthy, more positive alternatives through music.

Both my lads were involved in their own bands (and they were both excellent, of course!) and there is no doubt that this experience helped build their characters and social skills.  I will accept that the support we gave them did not come cheap, what with all the sound equipment etc we had to buy, and so for a strategy like this to work funding is of the utmost importance.  This is why there’s a great big ‘Donate now’ button on the website’s page.

I’ve no doubt there are initiatives like this operating in the UK and if you know of one I’d love to hear about it.  Use the ‘contact’ link below so we can sing about them.
